Shell Trinidad and A.R.R.O.W. improving literacy in East Port of Spain Schools
Through a partnership launched in October 2022, Shell Trinidad Ltd and the ARROW foundation made a commitment to improving the literacy skills of over 200 primary school children based in East Port of Spain.
The positive effects of A.R.R.O.W. multi sensory learning systems are being demonstrated by students motivation to learn and boost in their self-esteem, which has led to significantly enhanced reading and spelling skills.
Below are testimonials written by teachers from these selected schools, who have witnessed improvement in their students relationship to their school work and literacy skills.

I wish to express my sincerest, thanks to SHELL for partnering with ARROW towards the promoting of literacy within our school system.
My school is situated within the inner city, and as such experiences a lot of challenges. This initiative has greatly benefited the students who had difficulty with their interaction with others, and also with their academic competence.
One of the participants from the Standard One class has shown improvement in her level of concentration during class. She has also gained more self-esteem and recently was able to participate in the schools CARNIVAL singing competition. It is my hope that this program will continue.

The ARROW Foundation has been at the Excel Beetham Estate Government Primary School since the academic year beginning in September, 2022. The implementation of this programme that has been sponsored by SHELL has been a blessing to my students and to me. Some students were able to benefit academically as a result of the motivation and concerted effects made by the tutors. Additionally, I noticed improvements in student behaviour as well as their confidence. Overall, those involved in the programme had a change in their approach to doing school work for the better.

Students who have taken part in this initiative have shown a marked improvement in the reading and comprehension skills. I have seen visible noticeable improvements in my students confidence and enthusiasm towards their work, as well as their determination to succeed in tasks that they once found challenging.
I would like to thank SHELL and the ARROW foundation and their team of competent, engaging and dedicated tutors for successfully implementing this program at our school .

I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the Arrow foundation, and SHELL, for assisting four of my students with with improving their reading ability through the Arrow programme.
A notable improvement that has been observed among many of the students is their confidence. As they approach the reading whenever opportunities present themselves within the classroom. This certainly complements the learning experience as well as the teaching experience.

One student repeated my class. I signed him up for ARROW in the first term, and he was one of my top readers by terms end. Another student was shy and lacked self-confidence. She just completed her last session and has gained some confidence.

This is to certify that I have observed during Term one and Term two, in which the ARROW foundation, an organisation funded by SHELL, have been working with Ezra. I have seen significant improvement in his reading writing and spelling. I’m very pleased with the work done by the ARROW foundation, and the time taken to identify Ezra’s needs and the effort made on a weekly basis to strengthen his weaknesses.
